Scholar Support Programs, housed within the Campus Center for Advising and Academic Services, seeks a highly creative part-time Media Intern for the upcoming academic year. The intern will be expected to commit 10-12 hours per week with an anticipated hourly pay rate of $10.
The candidate chosen for this position will be asked to work (remotely) an average of 2-3 hours per week during the remainder of the spring term, for training with our current intern, with the regular 10-12 hour week beginning in mid-August of 2020 and continuing through the spring 2021 semester.
Our office serves Illinois Promise Scholars, Stamps Scholars, and University Scholars, though interns will interface primarily with Illinois Promise constituents and, secondarily, with Stamps Scholars.
Illinois Promise is a scholarship awarded to newly admitted students at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign who have the greatest amount of financial need, but support for
I-Promise Scholars is much more than financial. Scholars join a diverse community of students who benefit from uniquely tailored resources and programs throughout their time on campus. These range in nature from individual coaching and referrals to large-scale events and interactive experiences.
The Stamps Scholarship is the most selective on our campus, designed to recruit talented and driven undergraduate students who possess a commitment to civic engagement, research, and leadership in a global society. In addition to generous funding, Stamps recipients at Illinois benefit from interacting with a close-knit community of fellow scholars, participating in professional development activities throughout the year, and engaging with the larger Stamps community at regional and national events.
Interns will report to the Assistant Director of Scholar Support Programs and will have the following responsibilities:
In collaboration with the Assistant Director:
- Develop and manage weekly electronic bulletin content and curation as well as tri-annual newsletters to various audiences including students, alumni, donors, and campus stakeholders):
- identifying timely topics;
- interviewing story subjects;
- developing content;
- managing contact lists;
- scheduling electronic distribution;
- archiving information
- Managing and updating website content
- Managing and updating social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
- Serve as co-producer for unit podcast
- Identifying relevant topics
- reserving recording space
- scheduling podcast guests
- developing questions for co-hosts and guests
- editing and releasing finished sessions to broad audience of scholars; donors; and community
- Identifying relevant topics
- Supporting programs and initiatives including but not limited to:
- new scholar orientation
- recognition ceremony
- social, academic, and service activities
- Donor relations activities
- Mentoring programs
- General administrative tasks as needed
Hours are flexible, with occasional nights and weekends required, and may include a mix of in-office and off-site work.
Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. Website content creation and management, photography, social media management, and video/audio recording skills are desirable.
Undergraduate majors in Advertising, Communication, Creative Writing, English, Journalism, or related disciplines are encouraged to apply but students from any major are welcome.
